Caliente For Real
In late April we escaped to Merida, MX to practice our spanish for a couple weeks. It was seriously cookin down there, like 95-105 degrees every day, but we still managed to get out and explore a little between Catelynn's spanish classes and my attempt at doing the usual work hours extra-remotely. We even managed to fit in visits to the dentist and a computer-repair shop for good measure. Meanwhile, the film camera put in some major work.

The hot and happening streets of Merida.

Multitudes of very photogenic colonial-era churches and cathedrals. The ugly reality is that many were built with stones from demolished Mayan pyramids that they replaced.

Lookin chido for the cam.

Our lodging with a family (and their gatitos) near the centro. We learned from them that housing prices have skyrocketed due to foreigners buying properties to convert them into Airbnb rentals and such. Ick.

Caught the bus to get some beach!

WhatsApped a stranger all of our personal info to hook up a car rental for a day so we could visit Uxmal. A thriving Mayan city for some 700 years.

The heat was ferocious, but we found some shady respite under trees here and there. I love trees.

Cooled off with a Cenote visit on the way back to the city! Also, trees...

Mysterious woman and bedraggled man headed for the airport. Merida's bus system was epic (and airconditioned).
