Snowy Day Snowy Play
Honestly it was a real shock to wake up last Friday and see that it was dumping snow outside. In Tacoma! Winter came through for WA at the last possible moment. Not looking so good for our southern neighbors, but we can at least celebrate the little wins, right?
We opted to plow ahead with our weekend hike plan, but it became much more of a snowventure than anyone anticipated. We'd set out for an excursion similar to my previous up the Middle Fork Snoqualmie, but the snow got thick quick, and ditching the vehicle 5 miles from our destination sounded like a far more satisfying choice than digging ourselves out of a snow bank. Thankfully, there was a secret trail along the river not far from where we parked (made even more secret by almost a foot of snow).
And don't worry, we got to enjoy some digging time later on when everyone trying to leave the valley was blocked in by some nitwits in a BMW...

Instant scenery reward.

The crew navigates deep snows.

But beautiful trees abound!

Now that's a honkin sitka spruce!

Happiness and joy back at the bridge!

Complete chaos down the road. In the 15-20 min it took to find a shovel, we came up with many far superior implements; axe, handsaw, snowshoes, flippers, bare hands, fragments of BMW bumper, etc.
